Ashes, dust, rust – we burn out, we return to earth, and our possessions decay in time. Everything will live, everything will die.
I could not care if they want me, I could not care if they hated me alive.
I bring myself to the top of a volcano. This downward spiral in the center is going dark like a pupil.
I sweat but I am all terrants of the earth prepared to fall into forever.
These are the rules of life; it is dark, no moon, no light. Just darkness, a starless sky.
Do not stand at my grave, do not weep. I am not there. I don’t sleep. I am a thousand winds that never blow. I am the quiet bird when you awake in the morning's calm. I am the dark star that shines at night. Do not cry. I am not there. I didn’t – I didn’t – I didn’t die.

Day's last breath

The smoke of grief is staggering towards the sun. We have the day’s last breath set in our sails. Geese are returning to mate. Crocuses have broken through frozen earth. Hyacinths and daffodils dance in colors, and chirping birds sing and swing.
Now day and night sit balanced, pinned by the sun. We drifted for months and woke with the bitter taste of land on our lips. Now I keep walking away, although it has been an eternity.
Early in the morning, we sat down to rest. Dewdrops are still shining on the track.
Shut the door if you wish to quell the craving. Light should be veiled by a smoky haze.
My cup is filled with a shadow. Affinity seems to be a shackle of fact.
Only going on mattered, for a brief time. Spring equinox holds us fast.
The light is coming. I want to spread my fingers into the sun, to cup it into the pale curved leaf of my body, and swallow down the liquid light. The light of life keeps shining on. The dark of night won't overcome the light of life; it burns so bright.

Embers

I had a dream. The bright sun disappeared, and the stars wandered dark in eternal space, and the icy earth floated blind in the moonless air.
The morning came and went, and brought no day, and people forgot their passions and all hearts cooled down in a prayer for light. And they lived for a fire, and everything they had, they burned, for a beacon of hope.
Tears flowed and quenched the embers.
And at the end, there was nothing left but ashes and dust. Everything was black. The world was empty, and in the dark, everyone was equal. And the tears were the only hope for a better life.

Dawn

As dawn writes the story of spring,
on petals of flowers and leaves of green,
autumn leaves cover the earth in an ashy shade
and morning eyes are filled with tears of fade;
I wander like a wind across the valley of a dream
over fields covered by a blanket of moonbeams
above stars cast in a gentle gleam
where rays of the sun swim in wafts of mist.
I choose moments of loss from shed petals of lost dreams
But when I see the world pass into night,
I realize there's nothing without light.

A pocketful of rocks

I am running and running, no wolves to guide my journey, and the forest scratches every inch of bare skin, and I would cry out if you hadn’t done the same to me.
There is light in your eyes but no love in the blood you make me bleed.
Count the distance and end up with infinity. Beg me for a message unclear. It’s better than nothing. The woozy way I walk into the ocean with a pocket full of rocks and a mind full of bitterness.
Invite me into your apocalypse and allow me to decide a fate which was never mine. While the moon is shaped into a frown, it watched the world fall upside down.
